When you want a baby, sometimes there are no other options than going the "sperm donors way". By law, sperm donors in Australia must provide identifying information. So intended parents who want a baby through donor conception can look for sperm donors in a sperm bank.

    Information about the Inquiry
    On 23 June 2010 the Senate referred the following matter to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee for inquiry and report.

    The past and present practices of donor conception in Australia, with particular reference to:
    (a) donor conception regulation and legislation across federal and state jurisdictions.
    (b) the conduct of clinics and medical services, including:

    (i) payments for donors,
    (ii) management of data relating to donor conception, and
    (iii)provision of appropriate counselling and support services;

    (c) the number of offspring born from each donor with reference to the risk of
    consanguine relationships; and
    (d) the rights of donor conceived individuals.

    Submissions should be received by 30 July 2010. The reporting date is 30 November 2010.

    The Committee is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form submitted online or sent by email to [email protected] as an attached Adobe PDF or MS Word format document. The email must include full postal address and contact details.
