How Can I Get Pregnant Quickly?
It’s decided: you want to make a baby. Even if some women get pregnant almost immediately after they stop taking the pill, it’s not the same for everyone. But don’t worry, there are a few tips to help you to improve your fertility and get pregnant quickly.
Determine the date of your ovulation to know when is the best time to conceive
As you might know, you can’t get pregnant at any moment of the cycle. You are only fertile during your ovulation, which happens to be in the middle of your cycle, approximately the 14th day before the start of menstruation.
To determine the date of your ovulation you can chart your basal body temperature. It’s simple: with your thermometer, chart your temperature when you wake up in the morning. Every day, write down your body temperature; if you’ve had sex; if you experienced pain, bleeding or fever and if you took medication.
To help you to know when you are ovulating you can also use an ovulation test. Following these methods will help you know when is the best time to make a baby.
Have a balanced and varied diet
To get pregnant faster you need to make sure that you are getting all the good nutrients and vitamins your body requires to be healthy enough to welcome a baby. To guarantee the best possible odds of conceiving it is essential to eat varied and balanced meals every day. Focus on fruits, vegetables, legumes (like beans and lentils), whole milk products, cereals and foods that are high in iron and fiber.
Following a strict diet to lose fat can have a negative impact on fertility. Eating too much sugar and trans-fat is not good either. You should also limit your consumption of alcohol and coffee, as these beverages can affect your chances of getting pregnant.
Stop smoking, or at least to reduce your cigarette consomption
If it concerns you, it’s best to stop smoking – or to reduce your consumption at least – while trying to conceive. It is well documented that tobacco can lower fertility. If your partner smokes as well, be aware that his consumption of tobacco can also have an impact on the quality of his sperm and thus on your chances of becoming pregnant.
Make love often
This is obvious, but to increase your odds of making a baby you should try to have sex as many times as possible. Be aware that on average the lifespan of sperm inside the genital canal is 72 hours. Accordingly, it’s best to have sex at least every three days.
The right positions
To help the sperm to fertilize the egg, give preference to sex positions where the man is on top and those which allow deep penetration. Of course, sex is also about having fun, so don’t give up on your favorite positions!
After having sex, lie down on the bed and put your legs up in the air, resting them against the wall with your pelvis slightly raised (you can use a pillow to make it easier). This position will help to keep the sperm in your vagina.
Choose the right season
Fertility varies throughout the year and according to the seasons. The number of sperm is higher at the beginning of spring and at the end of fall. Their motility is also better at the end of summer/beginning of fall. The best moment to conceive is therefore the end of fall/ beginning of winter.
Relax and try to be less stressed
Trying to get pregnant can be stressful for women. It is to be noted that psychological factors are important during the process of conceiving. Being relaxed and feeling good in your body as well as your mind will increase your chances of becoming pregnant quickly, so try not to focus too much on your ovulation date and your basal body temperature. Instead, you can do yoga, meditation or other activities you like, alone or with your partner. Don’t worry, be patient and remember that it’s perfectly normal to wait 6 months to get pregnant after stopping the pill.
